About Rich

Rich lives at 28700 Platte River Plaza in Waterloo, NE.  Born in Omaha, he attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Bellevue College.

Son of Omaha District Court Judge and Mrs. Rudolph Tesar, and brother of Rudy J. Tesar, longtime Douglas County Clerk of the District Court, Rich Tesar and his family have a long history of respected public service in Douglas County.

Rich Tesar owned and operated Tesar Insurance Agency in Omaha for fifteen years before selling his business to follow his passion for the Platte River and started Rich Tesar Outdoors, an outfitting and guiding service serving western Douglas County and greater Nebraska, and the Missouri River reservoirs of South Dakota.

Rich devotes much of his free time to the Sokol Camp Association, a non-profit charitable organization in western Douglas County, where he has served for many years as its President.  Also, Rich has played a major role in a number of wildlife conservation groups.  He was the founder and first chairman of the Western Douglas County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited.

Rich’s wife of forty-four years, Mary, retired as a Division Manager from Omaha Public Power District after working 36 years at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station.  She now fills her time with her family and watching the vast variety of wildlife in the outdoors.  Rich and Mary especially enjoy the quiet moments walking in the river, observing the river’s wildlife and fishing by their home located next to the Platte River.

A devoted husband and father, Rich and his wife, Mary, are the parents of two sons:  Jake and Zack.  Nearly seven years ago a daughter-in-law joined the family when Zack married his college sweetheart, Joelle.  Zack is a multi-claims agricultural adjuster; Joelle is a sign language interpreter for the public schools.  Jake attended the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and served in the military for 8 years.  The Iraq War veteran separated active duty service at the rank of Captain and is now employed as a field engineer.

Rich’s interest in hockey led him to be a youth coach and later a player scout for a Junior "A" hockey team.  Mary complimented her career by being a "hockey mom" while their sons were growing up.  Both boys began playing hockey at early ages and continued into the Junior "A" and collegiate levels: Jake played Division One hockey at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO; Zack played at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire, WI.  Jake and Zack also follow in their father’s footsteps in their love of the outdoors.  Jake is an avid fisherman, while Zack and his wife are upland game hunters. Zack and Joelle are both accomplished bow hunters as well.  Jake and Zack and his wife are all avid waterfowl hunters.

Rich's hobbies include wildlife photography, camping, kayaking, fishing, hunting, and training his black labs.  You can see some of Rich's wildlife photos on Facebook at "Rich Tesar NRD Director."

Rich volunteers a lot of his time at the Community of Grace Church in Elkhorn where he serves as Vice-Chairman on the Board of Elders.  Additionally, Rich enjoys instructing at youth fishing seminars where he promotes the idea of "Get Hooked on Fishing."  Rich can also be frequently found showing "Dad and the kids" how and where to catch fish at the NRD's western Douglas county recreation areas on the Platte and Elkhorn Rivers.  Rich is also an active advocate in support of state and federal legislation protecting our Second Amendment’s right to keep and bear arms.

"Protecting your life, protecting your property, protecting your future."
